Frustrated

I am still upset at how the voting went towards prop 8. So i just wanted to drop my 2 cents once again on the issue and shed some light on something.

Arguement: Many say that civil unions are the same thing as marriage. So what does it matter?

Question: If you decided to marry someone of a different race than you, but others passed a law saying you werent allowed to, but you could have a civil union just not marriage like same race couples. Would civil unions still be the "same thing?"

Just something to ponder...

"Do on to others as you would want others to do on to you."

  2. Frustrated and hopeful are the two things I've been feeling the most about this issue. That rollercoaster is draining.

  3. Some more food for thought; is it possible to prove that religion was the biggest contributor in influencing people to vote for prop 8? Yes they are probably the most outspoken supporters especially with the areas that we live in, however I think our views on what's happened with this may be one-sided. This was a statewide issue, and it ultimately was up to the individual whether they are religious or not in deciding what to vote for.

How many ppl do we know are actually religious and actually follow it by heart? I don't know that many. And even if there are ppl that are religious, how many ppl do we know claim to be affiliated with a religion, yet in this issue, decided to vote against prop 8?

My point is although religion is the most outspoken supporter of prop 8 I don't think it was the biggest factor in influencing ppl's votes. One reason being is that not many ppl are religious, and another being that many ppl that are religious didn't follow what their religion was saying to do. It came to the ppl's own moral values, whether they were traditional or more open.

  4. i only have one thing to say...

ray's post had NOTHING to do with religion.

oh..and i don't think religion was the biggest contributor to influencing people to vote for 8.
why do i say this? because discrimination still exist in our society, people may not be "religious" but people still discriminate. All of us can fight and argue about "religion", marriage, gay/straight issues, WHATEVER whats done is done and like i said at the meeting "we can't really do anything about it".

i want you to watch this video, i don't care if you voted for 8 or against it. i feel like everyone needs to see this video, because I couldn't have been able to say what he said any better.

Following ones own moral code over their designated religion does not make one less religious in my eyes. A muslim can attack our nation in the name of Allah and truly believe it is what their god wants, is this not religious? The god is not blue eyed, brown eyed, gay, straight, white, black, spiteful, and he/she is inclusive and loving of all his/her children.

The truth is that religion does not equate to an individual's moral code, but it does however influence it and with many others plays a strong hand in it.

In my opinion i believe the reason prop 8 passed does in fact have more to do with uninformed and misled voters. Not to mention I would assume that more No on Prop 8 Advocates are more educated on the issue and realize that it does not directly effect heterosexual/christian/white/male America. An quite possibly they understand more deeply that before the gender is considered of the couple the factor of LOVE and DEDICATION to ones spouse comes FIRST.

Even staight couple marriages end under the catholic church. So even if you believe that god doesn't "agree" with homosexuality. What would GOD rather see, a straight couple married in his church and later divorced in hate or a same sex couple marry under the STATE and live happily with DEDICATION and LOVE to their spouse?

Think of GOD as a parent (a GOOD PARENT) that loves ALL of his/her children equally. If his gay son got married would GOD be present at the ceremony? God is after all everywhere. I'm sure he/she would be their with a smile on his/her face.
