Tina Fey got whore'd up for a Jersey Shore spoof

And you won't find any complaints here. God I hope I can look this good when I'm 40 and pregnant. I meant, not that I'm a woman or that I want to be pregnant...you know, whatever the guy equivalent of this would be.

Head on over to Warming Glow for the whole sketch from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

30 Rock is still on television

tinafeyyeauh

Oh how I love Tina Fey, and just the same, her show 30 Rock. I caught on to 30 Rock late in 2007 during its first season, and ever since I’ve been watching the show religiously.

Despite being critically acclaimed and winning almost every television award imaginable, from Emmys, Golden Globes, to SAG honors, 30 Rock has struggled miserably to capture ratings, which are vital to keeping a series alive for a next season. (After winning their first Emmy for “Outstanding Comedy Series,” Tina Fey made sure to thank the “dozens and dozens of viewers” during her acceptance speech. Hah!)

Just ask the sad, defeated fans of short-lived shows like Bionic Woman (1 season), Cavemen (also 1 season), or that ridiculous Friends spin-off Joey (2 seasons). Then again, why anyone would watch a show featuring Joey Tribbiani in the first place still troubles me. Even shows that should-of-been television classics, like Saved by the Bell: The College Years, lasted only 1 season before getting the axe due to low ratings. Poor Slater.

Now in its 3rd season, 30 Rock has slowly but surely, picked up the pace in ratings and has already been renewed by NBC for another season; its rise in popularity thanks in large part to the show’s guest star-power (i.e. Jennifer Anniston, Oprah, Salma Hayek) and of course, through the hard work of Ms. Fey. Likewise, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, and the rest of the ensemble cast are comedy gold.

Either way, I still recommend this show (Thursday nights at 9:30 PM) to anyone with a goofy sense of humor, and being a comedy series, it should be relatively easy to pick up.

Tonight’s episode also definitely looks like to be a keeper, especially with stud-actor Jon Hamm of Mad Men set to make a guest appearance as a romantic interest to Fey’s character, Liz Lemon. Salma Hayek also reprises her role.

Here’s a preview:

That should be me!! WAHHHHH

Anyways, that ends my last, futile attempt to convince the world that 30 Rock is worth watching. If you do happen to give the show a try, I hope you enjoy it. If not, you’re probably not weird enough. (Really)

2008 TV Preview: NBC

I've a TV fanatic so I'll be doing previews of the major networks lineups as well as additional comments on my favorite shows. If you missed my preview for FOX it's right below this post, but today I'll be focusing on NBC.

For a while the only thing NBC had that people would actually watch was Law & Order and ER. This left them with the worst ratings amongst the big four, but recently they've retaliated. In the past few years they became home to probably the best comedy night on TV, and a few other shows directed at audiences like ourselves with programs like Heroes, Friday Night Lights, and just this past year with Chuck. Their lineup for the Fall is fairly strong, and I'm looking forward to it.

MONDAY
8:00: Chuck / Sep 29
Another show entering its sophomore year after a shortened first season. This show picked up a ton of buzz this season. When it was at Comic-Con two years ago no one really had any expectations for it, but after a year there was a huge line just to see a Q&A with the cast. I didn't watch the show when it aired, but after watching it this summer I have to say that it caught me. With a very likable cast including Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Adam Baldwin, Sarah Lancaster, and Captain Awesome, watch Chuck, a nerd turned spy in one night, deal with the realization of his new life in this fun, enjoyable show.

9:00: America's Toughest Jobs (NEW)
"Average" people join a competitive show in which they undergo "incredibly dangers and physically demanding" jobs. The winner is apparently awarded with the salary of each completed job. Sounds interesting and I guess it could be fun to watch, but you probably won't hear me talking about it. This will air until Heroes returns.

9:00: Heroes / Sep 22
This show is really on the fence for many. Taking on a sort of Prison Break effect in which people fall in love with the characters and develop a fanboy style attachment, but after it all one must admit that the overall wasn't very good. It started with an awesome first season, and then an incredibly disappointing second, we'll see if the third can once again pull us into the world of super heroes. The trailer looks pretty interesting, but I've heard bad things about the pilot, but we'll have to see for ourselves.

10:00: My Own Worst Enemy (NEW) / Oct 13
The commercials for this show are hilarious. "Watch Christian Slater as Henry, watch Christian Slater as Edward!" What the hell? Henry Spivey lives an ordinary suburban lifestyle while Edward Albright is a high profile individual who is a killer, speaks multiple languages, and so on, but they share the same body!!! Somehow the internal wall in the mind breaks down and the personalities begin to blur. "Who can you trust when you can't trust yourself?" I guess we'll find out.

TUESDAY
8:00: The Biggest Loser: Families / Sep 16
Probably the most American show on television, the Biggest Loser is a competition in which overweight people compete to loser pounds. At the end of the show the contestants go to a weigh in, and the team with the least pounds lost is cut. We've all seen this before, but this time it's with families!!! This show is okay, it can be inspiring at times, especially when they put a shit load of fried chicken on a plate and then they're like "this is what you used to eat," and the contestants cringe. If you're a reality fan go for it.

10:00: Law & Order: SVU / Sep 23
It's Law & Order, but with sex crimes. I don't really follow this show, but whenever I do watch it it's always pretty interesting.

WEDNESDAY
8:00: Knight Rider (NEW) / Sep 24
I really wasn't expecting to like this show, but I was pleasantly surprised after watching the pilot. It should appeal to the same audience of Chuck fans, with comedic elements paired with intense action and a story line that's borderline cheesy but still manages to stay interesting. The show takes place 25 years after the original David Hasselhoff Knight Rider and takes a modern twist on the original idea. They make some cool tie-ins to the original, and in my opinion it's worth checking out.

9:00: Deal or No Deal / It's on already
I hate this show. Watch Bobby's World talk on the phone with Dr. Claw while people watch models hold cases with numbers inside of them. For whatever reason this pulls in so many viewers making a majority of NBCs ratings.

10:00: Lipstick Jungle / Sep 24
I've never seen an episode of this. A Sex and the City rip-off, but apparently not as good. Watch Brooke Shields, Kim Raver, and Lindsay Price navigate the New York business world as three powerful woman. Hooray.

THURSDAY
8:00: My Name Is Earl / Sep 25
I've never really caught on to this show, but it's been going on for a few seasons and whenever I do watch it its been funny.

8:30: Kath & Kim (NEW) / Oct 9
Described as "a contentious relationship of a dysfunctional mother-daughter duo in middle-class suburbia" this is a remake of an Australian comedy. It has Molly Shannon as Kath Day and Selma Blair as Kim Day, so I might watch a couple episodes because I think Molly Shannon is hilarious.

9:00: The Office / Sep 25
If you're a fan this doesn't need explaining. This show is really hit and miss for me. Everyone once in a while they have a truly hilarious episode (last years Dinner episode), but more often than not they have Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson driving their cars into lakes because of their GPS system, retarded. Believe me, I want to like this show, but sometimes it's just too ridiculous.

9:30: SNL: Weekend Update (NEW)
A place holder until 30 Rock returns, the familiar comedy sketch takes on the 2008 presidential election.

9:30: 30 Rock / Oct 30
I fricken love this show. Watch coolkids favorite Tina Fey play the role of a female TV writers who tries to control the madness behind the scenes of TGS. If you're looking for a solid 30 minutes of comedy this comes highly recommended, and in my opinion the best comedy on TV right now.

10:00: ER / Sep 25
Entering it's 15th and FINAL SEASON. I've never really followed ER (no shit I'd have to have started watching when I was six years old) but it's always been entertaining, and since it's entering it's last season look forward to guest stars from previous seasons to return and give this show a worthwhile goodbye.

FRIDAY
No one watches TV on Friday, but of course NBC has faith in its shows so they're airing a new show entitled Crusoe (Oct 17), more Deal or No Deal, and then sophomore show Life (Sep 29).

SATURDAY
NBC airs Dateline, Knight Rider repeats and Law & Order repeats. And then SNL (Sep 13).

SUNDAY
7:00: Football Night In America

8:30: NBC Sunday Night Football
The only time I get to watch the Chargers

MIDSEASON
They have a new show called Kings, and then Medium returns (who watches this show?) and then if you don't catch Friday Night Lights on DirectTV it should air on NBC in the winter.

And that concludes NBCs TV lineup. The shows I'll follow are Chuck, Heroes, possibly My Own Worst Enemy, Knight Rider, Lipstick Jungle (just kidding), The Office, 30 Rock, and then Friday Night Lights, but I'll probably just download that instead of waiting till January.

The 2008 Emmy Nominations

Even with a 3 month writers strike, this past year was one of the best years in television I've seen, ever. New shows like Mad Men and Damages showed the world that good programming can be found on television, and returning shows like 30 Rock and Lost continue to impress all of those who follow. New and old shows alike fill the Emmy nominations list this year, including 17 nominations for the coolkids favorite 30 Rock, and 16 for the previously mentioned Mad Men. Additional, new, favorites of mine that made the list are Pushing Daisies, Damages, and Breaking Bad, while old favorites like Lost and House continue to shine. Notable listings include Jon Hamm (Mad Men) for Best Lead Actor in a Drama, Tina Fey (30 Rock) for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy, and Nick News with Linda Ellerbee for Outstanding Children's Program. The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards airs September 21st on ABC, and you can view the full list of nominations here

OMG The Office Was Actually Funny

Okay, last night's Office episode was funny as hell to me. I'm known for showing a certain amount of hate towards this show, but last nights episode dodged everything I dislike about it. They brought the team to a new setting, centered the episode around a few characters instead of the whole building, and to me they really achieved what The Office (at least in my opinion) was originally supposed to do, leave you hanging on the brink of awkwardness with your mind boggled and stomach uneasy.

This episode reminded me a lot of the earlier Office episodes because they laid out a ton of subtle jokes. I was cracking up throughout the whole episode because of Michael and Jan's little quirks. This episode brought out the best of all the characters, from Angela denying hugs, to Jim aggravating Michael till he screams, all the things that made us love this show in the first place. I mean when the argument started with Michael and Jan at dinner, and then the song was playing during the whole sequence, comedy gold right there, so hilarious.

The reason my love for this show has slowly depleted was because it got repetitive and too off the wall. I mean I know Dwight is weird, but you could imagine someone like that in our world. But when Michael and Dwight drive a car into a lake because their GPS system told them to, what the fuck? No one would do that, and lately The Office has been going for so many out of this world jokes, cheap laughter if you will.

To sum it up the episode brought together all of the best things about the Office, the way it brings you into uncomfortable situations, the discrete humor, and nothing too over the top. If the rest of the Spring season episodes are like this, maybe I'll start to praise this show again.

30 Rock was good too, Thursday nights belong to NBC, at least for now.

Welcome Back

After a three month long writers strike, the entertainment industry is making another push to finish out this years TV season. Before the strike many shows left us with a ton of potential season enders, not knowing for sure when their show would return. Our television-starved eyes were given images of BFFs crying by an airplane, weird musical episodes, crazy plot revelations and so on. Even though I live a life of endless entertainment viewing, and with Lost and ABDC gone (for now), I'm eagerly awaiting the return of some of my favorite shows so I can fit them into my schedule.

Tonight NBC airs new episodes of My Name Is Earl, but the week after we see the return of everyones favorite (overrated) comedy The Office. Alongside that we have new episodes of Scrubs and of course a coolkids personal favorite 30 Rock. You can also look for new episodes of Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, House, and so on in the upcoming weeks, and another run of Lost episodes before Spring TV ends and Summer TV makes its appearance. Use the internets to find your local TV listings.

So for those of you who have spent the prime time hours doing nothing but checking fantasy stats and learning to knit, get ready for TV to make its return. Finally, something to turn people away from American Idol and Deal Or No Deal. TV, nice to have you with us once again.

The Writers Strike is Over

No I haven't been living under a rock, I know that the strike is over, but the reason I haven't posted yet is because today (Tuesday) the members of the WGA West and WGA East are voting to officially call off the strike now that a deal has been made. I held off on posting about it because the strike isn't "officially" over with, but since voting is today and many writers are already back to work I'm going to go ahead and say that yes, after months and months of picket lines, the WGA finally got a deal with the AMPTP which allows them to receive a cut on new media, basically an "if you get paid, we get paid" kind of deal.

Now keep in mind that the writers did not receive everything they asked for, but after being off work for such a long period of time, they had to come to a compromise, and that's what negotiating is, isn't it? Making sacrifices and having both sides come together to really work something out, and over the weekend that happened. Many say that the disaster that was the Golden Globes was the turning point for the AMPTP to come back to the table and get a deal going, but I'm glad that it's over. Hollywood as we once knew it is back to its usual routine, everyone is back to work, and production for many of our favorite shows is back in order.

Now it's not like we'll get new episodes of our favorite shows out of nowhere. Easier shows like 30 Rock and The Office will probably get a few new episodes airing around April/May, but giant production shows that revolve around a specific timeline like 24 won't return until January 2009. Pilot season as we know it will most likely not happen, and new shows that came out this year (Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies, Chuck) will probably wait till the fall for new episodes to air, but that all depends on how production goes. TV Guide keeps an updated list on the status of shows which can be found here.

So the important thing coming out of all of this is that the WGA, as well as all of the United Hollywood, fought for what they deserved, and for the most part it worked out. So now I'm going to eat the thai food I just bought and watch some reruns of Gossip Girl, PEACE.

Credit Well Deserved

Unfortunately, due to the lack of my own personal access to cable television while living in the dorms, I missed the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG). Come to think of it, if I did have access to it I probably wouldn't have watched it because I'm not the biggest fan of red carpet award shows, but thanks to the internet I was able to view this clip.

Huge congrats to coolkidsroom favorite Tina Fey for winning in the category of Outstanding Performance of a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. She also gives a shout out to the writers, and apparently the SAG gave tons of credit to the WGA throughout the night. It's an awesome sight to see all these units in Hollywood really coming together in these harsh times.

Other notable winners were 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin, the entire Sopranos cast, The Office cast, and more, but I would've loved to see people behind Mad Men accept an award on stage in front of many since the Golden Globes didn't air in its traditional fashion

The full of list of award winners can be found here.

Something is inherently missing.. (with tongue-in-cheek)

Proposal:

If one was to define the coolkidsroom family as a collaboration of writers, affiliates, and readers with a variety of hopes and dreams for this blog, but with the collective intent of entertaining, self-enjoyment, venting, combating boredom, and addressing issues, then one can also assume that coolkidsroom is also… a TEAM!!!

In sum, this sorry-attempt at essentially, a useless dissertation is my lame excuse for discussing the following idea: Since we’re all in this together, and because we’re essentially a TEAM, it’s no question that also, just like a sports team, every team needs a…

MASCOT!!! woooohoooooo

Yep, a mascot is much needed. If Disney has Mickey Mouse, XBOX has Master Chief, the Padres have the Friar, the Steelers have Steely McBeam, D.A.R.E. has a lame-o lion, and if Subway has that fatass Jared, what about coolkidsroom?

After a little brainstorming, I’ve compiled a short list of possible poster-boys that would best-represent and embrace the overall “feel” of this blog. In no way, shape or form is this a list of definite or restricted possibilities; instead, I hope others could help me critique and comment on my suggestions, or even better, come up with their own potential mascots.

My Top 5 Candidates:

JAMAL WILLIAMS

The 350 lb. Pro-Bowl defensive tackle of the Chargers, a 10-year veteran of the NFL who eats blockers for lunch, runningbacks for dinner, and QB’s for dessert.

Why: Besides just being a badass, Jamal Williams personifies everything coolkidsroom is and has to offer; an unstoppable force, rock solid performances, hard-work ethic, selfless teamplay, longevity, and a fatass’s love for food.

Why not: Picking Williams would mean playing favorites among Chargers players, since all of them are well-qualified for the mascot gig. (except for Legadu loser Nanee). Furthermore, his intimidating glare alone would scare off our more ‘sensitive’ readers.

THE D.A.R.E. LION

The cute, cuddly, but bipedal freak of nature that is exploited by the Pigs to attract unsuspecting kids into a life of drug-abstinence.

Why: He has a rich history (1,2,3) at coolkidsroom, being the butt-end of many jokes, so it is with a sense of loyalty and obligation that we pay homage to his prolonged suffering. As a bonus, in case the feds come sniffing around for obscene material, they’ll just pass us up as another dedicated anti-drug website when they see him smiling back at them.

Why not: He’s pathetic. Likewise, he’s failed miserably on his quest to prevent our generation from drug abuse. (i.e. See all the names on the column to the right)

TINA FEY

The smart, talented, funny, and attractive Emmy-award winner & nominee, writer of Mean Girls, former SNL cast member & head writer, and mastermind and star of 30 Rock. In sum, the most gorgeous women on earth.

Why: Because I have an unhealthy obsession with her.

Why not: Because I have an unhealthy obsession with her.

CALIFORNIA BURRITOS

Delicious morsels of carne asada and French fries, with pockets of cheese and sour cream; all wrapped in a warm tortilla for a savory meal of Mexican-inspired goodness. Found at a Taco Shop near you. Typically accompanied with hot sauce, and often enjoyed following a night of excessive alcohol consumption.

Why: This burrito captures the essence of the Southern California culture and lifestyle of our generation. Plus, coolkidsroom and family owe much to the legendary Cali Burrito for our continued nutritional growth (and deterioration).

Why not: We would all gain 15 more lbs. due to unwarranted cravings caused by the Cali Burrito’s constant image.

LANCE

aka our very own CommanderCacho. San Diego born-and-raised and former Prom King of Mt. Carmel High School, he now currently attends UCI.

Why: He’s Lance damnit! If with any doubt, spend an entire day with Lance and a bottle of Hennessey, and experience his funness for yourself.

Why not: The real-life Lance would probably get mad. He’s probably mad at me right now as he reads this.

I’ll probably narrow down these choices and other suggestions later. Decisions, decisions.

Best,
Adonis

Tina Fey is TOP TIER

I was disgustingly under the weather for this past week, which unfortunately spoiled my Christmas and the days after, resulting in a fun-filled schedule of downing Nyquil, hibernating, and being terrified of sunlight. On the bright side of things, being horribly sick allowed me to catch up on some of my favorite T.V. shows and check out those I’ve missed out on.

Namely, this meant a heavy dose of watching Saved by the Bell DVD’s – gotta take notes from the original pimp, Zack Morris, of course – checking out episodes of The Office – I don’t know about the hour long ones, its just a burnout – and re-watching season 3 of Entourage on HBO – still my favorite “guy” show.

If you’ve been deprived of quality entertainment, I recommend watching any of these shows in any form, BUT, to save most of your energy for one show in particular, that being NBC’s relatively new comedy, 30 ROCK.

Thanks to 30 Rock, I truly believe I’ve found the new love of my life in the show’s creator, producer, lead actress and writer… TINA FEY.

my wifey.

Yeah, that’s a weird wedding dress pic from the show, but damn, she’s beautiful. She’s smart, talented, attractive, has a great sense of humor and distinguished resume, and even better, she’s apparently a self-proclaimed Star Wars fan. I bet in high school she gave all the nerds in her class G.P.A. boners. In sum, the lovely Tina Fey is definitely top tier. And my new wifey.

Really though, 30 Rock is a genuinely funny show worth watching. The series basically revolves around Fey’s character Liz Lemon in a sort of behind-the-scenes setting, as she attempts to manage an insane cast & crew of an SNL-like show, such as her boss Jack Donaghy played by Alec Baldwin, who is also fuckin’ hilarious (like his acting in The Departed, also good shit). As mentioned in an earlier post by nazer, both Fey and Baldwin were up for awards at the 2007 Golden Globes, but all other nominations aside, 30 Rock took home the gold, wining out in the category of “Outstanding Comedy Series.”

Ironically, its great how I coincided my interest in the show with the WGA Writers Strike, so I pretty much just screwed myself over now that I’m dieing for new episodes. Fuck.

And The Nominees Are...

The Golden Globe nominations were given out this week, and overall I'm pleased by the picks.

)Nomination lists can be found here)

I'm going to focus on TV because I'm too poor to comment on the movie nominations.

For best TV drama it's exciting to see Damages and Mad Men on that list. These shows premiered in the summer, and they really are amazing dramas. With Big Love and House on that list as well, it's going to be interesting to see who gets the award (at least until the Emmys).

Along with those shows, Joe Hamm really earned that nomination. His role as Donald Draper in Mad Men is done so well, and I really hope that these nominations help AMC put more faith into their show. Michael C. Hall also makes an appearance on that list for his role in Dexter, a condo favorite, so that's pretty awesome as well.

On the female side I have to give praise to Glenn Close on Damages. If you haven't seen an episode of this show, you should really check it out, and Glenn Close really keeps you guessing on her motives the entire episode.

Under best comedy 30 Rock makes an appearance. I'll say it now and I'll argue with it anytime, but this show rocks the shit out of The Office. The writing is brilliant, the characters are hilarious, and the show is actually funny. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are nominated under best Actress and best Actor, well deserved. Also on that list is my favorite fall series Pushing Daisies, with Lee Pace and Anna Friel both receiving acting nominations.

In my opinion there are a few snubs. I believe that Lost should have deserved some love, even with it's slow season opening, actors like Elizabeth Mitchell and our favorite box company employee Locke, played by Terry O'Quinn really excelled in their craft this season. I also would have liked to see Weeds over Californication in the comedy category, and I can honestly say that my love for Grey's Anatomy has slowly depleted over the past year. Under the supporting categories I would have loved to see Chi McBride and Kristin Chenoweth for their roles on Daisies because their inclusion in the show really keeps it moving.

The thing to focus on here though is the love that the freshman shows are getting. It's fantastic to see that brand new shows like Mad Men, Damages, and Pushing Daisies are really being recognized, thus upping the chance for more episodes. So overall I'd say that it's a pretty good list, in the movies side as well but I haven't seen them all so I won't really comment, and yeah this is just the peak of awards season, so we'll see what happens in the future.
